Why Nam, Haad Thien and Haad Yuan are small, jungle-backed beaches on Koh Phangan's coast near Haad Rin that are reached by taxi boat, 4x4 or on foot rather than by road. From Why Nam Villa it is a 5 minute walk to Why Nam and to Haad Thien, and about 10 minutes to Haad Yuan, along jungle paths.
The three beaches
Why Nam (Wai Nam)
A small hidden cove beside Haad Thien. It hosts occasional gatherings with music, usually finishing around 10pm. Our villa is in the hillside above it.
Haad Thien
The neighbouring beach, also a 5 minute walk from the villa along the jungle path. Easy to combine with Why Nam for swimming, sunset and dinner.
Haad Yuan
A short jungle walk away, about 10 minutes from the villa. Guides describe it as remote and boat-access, with a few places to stay and eat.
How to reach them
- Taxi boat. Access to these beaches is primarily by taxi boat, about 10 to 15 minutes from Haad Rin according to guides. The taxi boat from Haad Rin costs 500 baht per person each way, paid in cash, and we can arrange your transfer for you. Fares can change with the season.
- 4x4. A four-wheel-drive can come through the jungle. Ordinary cars and mopeds cannot make the route.
- On foot. Hiking from Haad Rin to Haad Yuan is possible; guides give times of roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. It is hilly and hot, so go early with water. Do not rely on a phone map in the jungle.

What is there?
These beaches have no banks or ATMs, and the nearest mini-mart is about a 10 minute walk from the villa. You will find a few restaurants and resorts, and the nearby ones offer free Wi-Fi. Bring cash and groceries. The villa itself has a fully equipped kitchen and Wi-Fi.
Noise, food and what to expect
- Noise. Why Nam beach hosts parties and gatherings with music that can be heard from the villa. They start in the afternoon and finish early, around 10pm.
- Food. Food can be delivered to the villa from any restaurant on the three beaches (Why Nam, Haad Thien and Haad Yuan), so you can eat well without cooking. There is also a restaurant on Why Nam beach below the villa, and the nearest mini-mart is about a 10 minute walk away. If you want to stock the kitchen, buy groceries in Haad Rin before the boat.
- The path. Our staff meet you at the boat and carry all your luggage, and any food deliveries, up to the villa and back down again. The way up is a short jungle path of about 5 minutes, uphill in places and uneven underfoot, so it is not step-free: wear sturdy shoes or sandals. If you have limited mobility, message us before you book.
Why Nam Villa and the beaches
The villa is the quiet base for all three. You can swim at Why Nam or Haad Thien in the morning, walk to Haad Yuan in the afternoon, join the evening gathering on Why Nam if you like, and then climb back to your own pool and hammock.
